Dunns Bridge Solar
Size: 700MW Solar + 75MW 4-Hour Battery Storage
Jasper and Starke Counties, IN
Dunns Bridge Solar is the largest solar project in the Midwest. It represents a $1 billion investment in Jasper and Starke Counties in northwestern Indiana. The project is owned by Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO).
The project includes a 75 megawatt, 4-hour battery energy storage system to make renewable energy available for more hours of the day. Dunns Bridge Solar produces enough electricity to power more than 200,000 homes. Jasper County is home to the R.M. Schahfer coal-fired power plant, and tax revenues from Dunns Bridge Solar will replace a portion of the revenues that will be lost as the Schahfer plant is retired in the coming years.
Clearwater Wind
Size: 750MW Wind
Rosebud, Custer and Garfield Counties, MT
The Clearwater Wind Project is the largest wind energy project in Montana. Orion began development of the Clearwater wind farm in 2012 with construction of the first phase commencing in 2020.
The 750 MW Clearwater Wind Project, built in multiple phases, will provide more than $200 million in property tax revenues to Rosebud, Custer, and Garfield Counties. The property taxes contributed by the project will bring vital long-term tax revenues to communities in rural eastern Montana for decades, helping to offset tax revenues lost by the retirement of Units 1 and 2 at the Colstrip Power Plant, one of the largest coal-fired power plants in the US.
The Clearwater Wind Project is also expected to provide more than $200 million in payments to the ranchers and farmers participating in the project, helping to provide stable long-term revenues to keep family agricultural and ranching operations going for the next generation.
Troy Solar
Size: 50MW Solar
Spencer County, IN
Troy Solar is a 50 megawatt project in Spencer County, Indiana, owned by CenterPoint Energy (formerly Vectren). Each of the project’s solar panels is mounted on a single-axis tracking system, enabling the panels to automatically rotate to follow the sun and maximize energy generation.
The project generates enough electricity to meet the needs of approximately 12,000 homes per year. Troy Solar was Orion’s first sale of solar assets to an investor-owned utility. Orion has a long relationship with CenterPoint which began purchasing electricity in 2008 from Orion’s Benton County Wind Farm, also located in Indiana.
Camp Grove Wind
Size: 150MW Wind
Marshall and Stark Counties, IL
Camp Grove is a 150MW wind farm in Stark and Marshall Counties, Illinois that began operations in 2007.
Orion is an owner of the wind farm, and we manage day to day operations. Every five years we’ve held an anniversary party for the project landowners, celebrating their critical role in the project’s initial and continuing success.
